How to Crochet the Ivy Mesh Top ✨ | Beginner-Friendly Crochet Top Pattern + Tutorial
Hello!
The Ivy Mesh Top is one of those pieces that looks delicate and stylish but is surprisingly easy to make. The mesh structure keeps it airy while the clean lines give it a polished, wearable look. It works beautifully over bralettes, camis, or swimwear, and the construction is simple enough for confident beginners while still satisfying for experienced makers.
There is a detailed tutorial for the same on my YouTube Channel which you can check out here.
Materials:
- Yarn – Weight-2 acrylic yarn (~ 250 gram)
- Hook – 4mm hook
- Scissors
- Stitch Markers
- Yarn needle
- Measuring Tape
Abbreviations:
- st – stitch
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- Special Stitches:
- dtr/dtc/dtrc - double treble crochet
- Yarn over 3 times. (You should now have 4 loops on your hook.)
- Insert your hook into the indicated stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. (You now have 5 loops on your hook.)
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. (4 loops remain on your hook.)
- Yarn over and pull through the next 2 loops. (3 loops remain on your hook.)
- Yarn over and pull through the next 2 loops. (2 loops remain on your hook.)
- Yarn over and pull through the final 2 loops. (1 loop remains on your hook — stitch completed.)
Pattern:
The Panels (x2):
Foundation Chain:
Ch 83 or any chain length but it has to be a multiple of 3 + 2.
In my case, 81+2=83.
Row 1:
- dc in 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across - (82 dc)
Row 2:
- ch 1 (not counted as a st), turn.
- dc in the same st and each st across - (82 dc)
Row 3:
- ch 7 (counts as first dtr + ch 2), turn.
- * [sk 2 sts, dtr in next st, ch 2]
- Repeat from * across until you’ve 3 sts remaining in the end.
- dtr in last st - (28 dtr & 27 ch-2 sps total)
Check “Special Stitches” for dtrc
Row 4:
- ch 7 (counts as first dtr + ch 2), turn.
- * [sk the ch2-sp, dtr on top of the next dtr, ch 2]
- Repeat from * across until you’ve the beginning ch7.
- sk2 chains, dtr in teh 3rd ch - (28 dtr & 27 ch-2 sps total)
Row 5:
- Repeat Row 4
Row 6:
- ch1 (not counted as a st), turn.
- dc on top of each dtr, 2 dc in each ch-2 sp - (82 dc total)
Row 7:
- Repeat Row 2
Row 8 – Row 17 (or until desired length):
- Repeat Rows 3–7 in sequence to maintain the mesh pattern.
- For reference:
- Rows 3–5 = mesh
- Row 6 = dc row
- Row 7 = dc row
Continue repeating until you reach your preferred length.
You can make the panel longer by adding more repeats of Rows 3–7.
In my sample, I stopped after Row 17, which measures approx. 11.5 inches.
It’ll be preferable to finish after the two dc rows for a nice finish,
Leave a long tail and fasten off.
Make another panel in the same way for the back.

The Sleeve Panels (x2)
The sleeves are worked using the same stitch pattern as the front and back panels. The only difference is in the foundation chain and the number of rows, which you can adjust depending on your sleeve width and desired length.
