How to Crochet the Rose Wallet | Free Pattern + Tutorial
Hello!
This little wallet is both simple to create and functional for everyday use. It’s the perfect project for beginners, requiring only one main stitch throughout. This pattern is fully customizable, so feel free to experiment with colors, sizes, and materials.
There is a detailed tutorial for the same on my YouTube Channel which you can check out here.
Materials:
- Yarn: Weight 2 (Fine/Sport) acrylic yarn (approx. 30g).
- Hook: 3.5 mm crochet hook.
- Notions:
- Stitch markers (essential for stitch counting)
- Pins (for assembly)
- Press buttons (for closure)
- Needle and thread (to sew on buttons)
- Tools:
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations:
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- sp - space
The Main Panel:
(In Main Color)
The wallet is created as one long rectangle that is later folded and seamed.
Foundation:
Ch 20+1 (or enough to reach your desired width).
Note: 20 chains measures approx. 4 inches for me.
Row 1:
- Work into the 2nd ch from the hook.
- Insert hook into the back bump of the chain.
- Make 1 sc in the back bump of every ch across.
- Total - 20 sc
Row 2–70 (or desired length):
- Turn your work.
- Insert hook into the first st (no turning chain needed for this method).
- Make 1 sc in every st across.
- Place a stitch marker in the first and last stitch of every row to ensure your edges stay straight and you don't miss any stitches.
- Total - 20 sc per row
- Fasten off once you reach your desired length (32cm / 12.5 inches is what I made)
Assembly:
- Lay your piece flat.
- Divide your total number of rows into four equal sections. (e.g., if you have 70 rows, divide by 4 = 17 rows per section, with 2 rows left for the "fold" space).
- Fold the bottom up and the top down, leaving a small gap in the middle (the fold area) to prevent bulk.
- Pin the sides in place.
Joining the Sides:
You can use a tapestry needle to sew the sides, or use the crochet join method below:
Create a slip knot on your hook.
- Insert hook through both layers (front and back) at the corner.
- Pull up a loop and ch1.
- Work sc along the edge, inserting the hook through both layers at even intervals.
- When you reach the "fold" area, work sc only through the back layer to maintain the structure, then continue joining the sides.
- Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat for the other side.
Attaching the Buttons:
- Position the press buttons on the wallet flap and the wallet body.
- Use a needle and thread to sew them securely into place. Ensure you do not sew through to the other side of the wallet; keep the stitching on the interior flap.
The Rose Embroidery:
- Determine where you want the rose to be. Insert your needle from the back of the work to the front, create a small anchor stitch, and tie it off on the back.
- Bring your needle back up to the front to the center point. Create two straight stitches (spokes) radiating from the center so that they form a "Y" shape. These three spokes are the foundation for your petals.
- Bring your needle up through the center of your "Y" foundation.
- Begin weaving by passing your needle under one spoke, then skipping the next. Continue this "under, skip" pattern, moving in a circle around the center point.
- As you continue the weaving motion, the yarn will stack up and form petals. Keep weaving until you have reached your desired rose size and fullness.
- Push your needle down through the fabric on the outer edge to lock the shape in place. Turn your work over, knot the yarn securely on the back, and trim the ends.
- Using green yarn, bring your needle up at the base of the rose. Do not pull the yarn all the way through; leave a small tail (loop) at the base.
- Insert the needle where you want the tip of the leaf to be, and bring it back up near the base to anchor the loop.
- You can create more leaves by repeating this process.
- When you are happy with the placement, pull the thread through to the back of the wallet, knot it, and weave in the ends
Make a few of these roses on each side scattered evenly. And you’ve finished crocheting this rose wallet! 💕
